"How Dare You Come To A Muslim Area ?"

Sometimes you think it's a good thing Labour won in 2005. I imagine had this been a Tory Home Secretary that the Labour Party would as one be denouncing the Islamophobic racists in the Home Office.

Home Secretary John Reid's attempt to connect with British Muslims was hijacked by radical protesters claiming he was an "enemy" of Islam.

Others attending a speech he gave to a 30-strong group of Muslims in Leyton, east London, were angered by calls for Muslim parents to look out for the signs of brainwashing in their children in the fight against terrorism.

Mr Reid was 10 minutes through his speech when well-known extremist Abu Izzadeen, clutching the hand of a small boy, interrupted him. The Home Secretary had just listed a number of terror attacks around the world when Izzadeen began his tirade and forced him to stop.

"How dare you come to a Muslim area when over 1,000 Muslims have been arrested?" he said. "You are an enemy of Islam and Muslims, you are a tyrant. Shame on all of us for sitting down and listening to him."

The Home Secretary stood and watched as police officers ushered him out of the room, followed by hoards of cameras, photographers and reporters. Continuing his diatribe, Izzadeen accused the Government of state terrorism and said Mr Reid, Tony Blair and George Bush with their crusade could "all go to hell".

After the furore died down, Mr Reid said: "This is not a new experience for me or for those involved in politics. There will always be people who will not be prepared to take part in a dialogue, but who will try to intimidate and shout down. They are not confined to the Muslim community."

But Mr Reid had only just re-started his speech when a second protester, radical Anjem Choudary, stood up to protest.

"Muslims do not need British values," he said. "We believe Islam is superior, we believe Islam will be implemented one day. It is very rich for you to come here and say we need to monitor our children when your Government is murdering people in Iraq and Afghanistan."

In his speech Mr Reid stressed that the terrorists were waging a "violent and indiscriminate war" and warned that communities needed to be more aware of signs of terrorist activity. He urged Muslim parents to look out for the "tell-tale signs" of radicalisation in their children.

"These fanatics are looking to groom and brainwash children, including your children, for one thing," he said. "Grooming them to kill themselves in order to murder others. Look for the tell-tale signs now and talk to them before their hatred grows and you risk losing them forever."

I'm not sure I'd have used that last argument - does Mr Reid actually think about his audience ? Just as a Christian would prefer a child to be in heaven rather than on earth but doomed to hell (believe it or not such a view would have been quite mainstream only a few generations back), so a religious Muslim parent might not consider having a martyr in the family to be 'losing them forever'. After all, they could argue, they'll meet again in paradise. Life on earth is short, and eternity a long time.

UPDATE - of course what the press reports fail to mention is that the vast majority of moderate Muslims at the meeting threw themselves on the hecklers, roughed them up, and slung them out the doors ;-)

Why didn't people just boo these islamo nutjobs down?

They have absolutely nothing to say that is a)intelligent b) of any interest to anyone but fellow nutjobs. Plus, how is it that they are so damned awful to look at. This must be the religion with the ugliest adherents on the face of the earth. Maybe it's a qualification for getting in.

"How dare you come to a muslim area"

How dare you pollute England with your presence Mr Muslim.

Send them back, deport them, repatriate them.

The Pope was right.

If the government don't start deporting the jihad preaching clerics, and jailing the protesters threatening executions and violence, there's going to be a backlash from the silent majority, who right now, feel persecuted and victimised in their own country.

John Howard set a good example when he told them to leave!

Yes! islam's superior! That's why they haven't gone anywhere in 1200 years, except as customers/cash cows for Western consumer products by way of oil wealth, which they didn't discover the uses for, didn't discover how to refine to suit the uses, and didn't figure out how to market.

It's time to remind these primitives who's the boss and that a little dhimmitude wouldn't go amiss.

Really? When was the last time the Home Secretary was heckled by British-culture rejecting Buddhists, Jews, Seventh Day Adventists or Scientologists....?

Sorry but I get irritated when I see people come up with "deport them". Where would you deport a British passport holder? I despise these fascists as much as anyone but we cannot deport people who hold British passports. If they hold another passport then theoretically we could strip them of British citizenship. However they would most certainly chhallenge it and most likely win given the loopy nature of most judges.

I believe we need a change in the law so that the government can strip a person of citizenship if they commit terrorist acts or incite terrorism or are deemed to be traitors. They could then go to another country say Afghanisyan for example and seek citizenship there and leave, but as the law stands we are unable to deport them. Hell we can't deport even EU criminals unless they have been sentenced to over two years. Maybe we should go back to the middle ages and "banish" them but what country would have them?

Irritated Anonymous,

Just as it was undemocratically decided to award these people the status of British subjects, so it can be decided - democratically or not - to remove it.

They clearly feel no allegiance to England - quite the opposite, in fact.

It is true that Britain has been signed up EU and UN treaties under which there is almost no way of deporting subversives or enemy agents. 10 years of attempts to work around this lattice-work of 'international law' have been a miserable failure.

The simple answer is that for this (and a great many other reasons) England needs to cease its adherence to these treaties, and to leave the EU and UN, both of which are exceptionally pernicious in their effects.

The Mad Mullahs and their chums who are living as parasites upon the host body of England can then simply be stripped of their (self-rejected) status as British subjects, and instructed to leave without delay.

I couldn't care less where they go, but any that are so instructed and fail to leave can be interned in harsh conditions on remote Scottish islands until they manage to think of a place that they can go to.

There is no need for this to cost the English taxpayer, either: the goods and chattels of these people can be used to defer the costs of their maintenance until such time as they are gone. This will give them an additional incentive to depart with alacrity.

Holding a British passport is totally meaningless since New Labour came to power, Blair has given them away like sweets.

It seems to me that most of them hold Pakistani origin cards, see link below, so can be deported at any time.
This is probably how so many disappear out of the country to evade the police.

Guys, at least choose a pseudonym, please! All these 'anonymous' entries are making my head ache trying to follow the lead.

Still waiting for that backlash. Unofrtunately we are far too genteel and well-muzzled to ever lash anything anymore.
