At Mass today :
"We pray for Pope Benedict, that he may bring understanding to those of different faith - even those whose misunderstanding is deliberate. Lord hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us".
Meanwhile at Westminster Cathedral ....

Peter Hitchens finally gets it-

But the Daily Mail was too afraid to leave his piece on their website.
Still waiting for an apology for 9/11 and the London attacks, 'We were wrong, it really was our fault, we have to change...' Come on guys, you can do it!
I pray that the Pope will be given strength and length of days to say what needs to be said and to do what needs to be done.
Read the linked article & noticed:"As we came out about 100 Islamists were chanting slogans such as..."Pope Benedict you will pay, the Muja Hadeen are coming your way".."
Pft! Where have I heard something like that before? Same music, different lyrics. They need some new material.
I guess it's true that there is no originality in Muslim culture....
Anon says: "I pray that the Pope will be given strength and length of days to....do what needs to be done."
Sadly, anon, the Pope has no divisions, as has been noted before in history, and so will find it hard to do anything..
Really, prayers ought to be said for those who feel insulted, as well, asking for them to be given the grace to forgive.
I wish muslims well for their future one way trip out of the country.
it's the usual...
"Apologise"
"OK - I apologise"
"No, like you really, really mean it"
"OK - I'm really, really sorry"
"Sorry, but that's not grovelling enough - we want you to grovel, we want sack-cloth and ashes, we want penitence - and when you've done that, we'll want something else".....
We've been here before. Muslim sensibilities seem to be as fragile as Gwyneth Paltrow during her Oscar winning speech......
I fear another Salman Rushdie episode on the horizon - and maybe some obscure mullah announcing a fatwa on the Pope...

"the Pope.....will find it hard to do anything"
Just doing what he's already done, pointing out some home truths about the ROP, he's done more than practically all of Europe's craven politicians added together.
dave fordwych - Sing it,brother!
This is a very brave and committed Pope.
"wish muslims well for their future one way trip out of the country": would you be happy if I wished Catholics a one-way trip back to Ireland, anticitizenone?
And the police did . . . er . . . nothing. Kinda makes you feel secure doesn't it. Glad I'm not a Catholic although, I suppose, any Christian will do in an emergency http://www.asianews.it/view.php?l=en&art=7230 .
"would you be happy if I wished Catholics a one-way trip back to Ireland, anticitizenone?"
If around 40% of them were trying to violently force me to be a catholic, or have special deference for say a kiddy fiddling bishop, or pay a special tax for non-catholics or demand special catholic laws and catholic only areas then I would.
INteresting. The brilliance of the Pope is that he has revealed the nature of modern day Islam to all the world while at the same time behaving in an apologetic and most Christian manner. In the US, we call that "rope-a-dope".
But, anticitizenone, your remark was about "muslims" not about a particular subset of them.
Mujahideen Shura Council (WTF that is) has announced: "God will (help) Muslims to conquer Rome. ... God will enable us to slit their throats, and make their money and descendants the bounty of the mujahideen,” said the statement."
Well, that should be a relief, given that their allah has helped them do bugger all for the last 1200 years. Given that their allah doesn't do diddley, what gives them the idea he's powerful? It seems to me he's a kind of a weaselly little coward, like the playground bully who prods other little boys, and says, "Go on! Hit him!"
Islam's a pathological condition.
"he's done more than practically all of Europe's craven politicians added together."
Agreed...so long as he doesn't then backtrack & make further apologies.
dearieme - It's not just a subsect. It is all of Islam. The exceptions are not the sects and subsects, but outstandingly intelligent persons who happen to be Muslim.
I commend to you Manjit Arshad. Quick-witted, funny, very brave and a great fighter. She says the unthinkable: islam needs its Reformation. And, of course, Aayan Hirsi Ali. There are some brave islamic bloggers. But islam is an intolerant, rigid construct that doesn't permit questions. It's Ripley's "Believe it or else!"
They believe that we are sinners because the natural state of humankind is islamic. We are born islamic (in pig's eye, if you'll excuse the expression, Mo) and we left the faith, which makes us apostates. This is why they can kill us without a second thought. We're infidels. By choice. This isn't the notion of a "particular subset". This is part of the root and branch of islam.
She says the unthinkable: islam needs its Reformation.
accompanied by a Peasants' Revolt and followed by Thirty Years War, thence by an English Civil War................sounds like it could be as mild a transformation as the 1914-18 War.
Just why do you think Reformation was peaceful as opposed to bloody and violent ?
Islam cannot be reformed unless you think The Koran was written in vanishing ink. It is its Absolute Immutability they like because they think Mohammed was God's secretary - where Moses only got to bring two stone tablets down the mountain
Islam is what it is - rigid - it might break but it won't bend.
This is a battle that will have to be fought............or lost
