"With regard to the barbed wire, when this is identified on site, we are obliged to request its removal or remove it on health and safety grounds to the general public, as this is a liability issue. This is a requirement enforced by our health and safety department."
The great Dalrymple - whose old stamping ground of Cape Hill wasn't so very far from Marlbrook - is not amused.

There seem to be two worlds operating in parallel in Britain at the moment - at least two worlds.
There is the world of the state and its minions. An Alice in Wonderland world, full of "diversity" and "multiculturalism" and wacky, impenetrable jargon and double speak, a topsy-turvy world where the rational has become the irrational, the reasonable the unreasonable. A world in which Islam is promoted in the name of tolerance, in which the right to burgle without risk is greater than the right to defend yourself against burglary, in which the right not be be contradicted or offended trumps the right to freedom of speech. Anyone with extensive dealings with the Police, Local Government, mainstream MPs, the Legal System and even the Fire Brigade will have encountered this alien universe, the robot voices, the mangled, obtuse, leaden verbiage of people brainwashed beyond hope.
Then there is reality, where the people who pay for it all - the taxpayer, the citizen and the voter live. They look on at this irrational, expensive and overmanned world with increasing alarm, and with increasing frustration that it seems so utterly beyond their power to control and change, regardless of who they vote for.
"...with increasing frustration that it seems so utterly beyond their power to control and change, regardless of who they vote for."
That's because it doesn't matter who you vote for - a lot of the people taking the actual decisions now haven't been elected by anyone at all...
