It isn't true, Jimmy Carter was shorter than Gerald Ford and Nixon shorter than McGovern.

There does seem to be a definate advantage for taller candidates though.

A spokesman for Burkes Peerage, the bible of royal and aristocratic genealogy based in London, has said that every presidential election since and including George Washington in 1789 has been won by the candidate with the most royal genes. Now we can see how and why. United States presidents are not chosen by ballot, they are chosen by blood!

Height discrimination is the elephant in the room in our society. Race, sex, hell- even sodomy: all these things are considered illegitimate grounds for differential treatment. But stature - no problem.

If Obama had been 5'2", would he even be a candidate today? I doubt it. And is height discrimination taken as seriously as racism? No.

I'm torn about the solution though. Whilst height discrimination impacts just about every aspect of society and life, is the answer more state?

Here we go again. Short people moaning about "height discrimination". Have you noticed how they're all like aggressive little terriers, unlike "gentle giants" like my 6'5" self... :-)

When I was in the US Navy, it turned out that 95% of flag officers at the time were 6'1" or taller. One noted exception was Mike Boorda the Chief of Naval Operations who committed suicide in a fuzzy haze of scandal.

I'm fairly sure that Harry Truman and John Adams were famously short; and Stephen Douglas would have got more votes than Lincoln in 1860, if the Democrats hadn't split. I am also wondering about the relative heights of Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, but am not sure of them.
