Goodbye

The kids are young, and Darcey Bussell is emigrating to Australia, the land of her fathers.

I think Martin Kettle's in love.

Just in front of me in a Covent Garden rehearsal studio, Darcey Bussell is sitting on the floor removing one of her ballet shoes. It is impossible not to be transfixed ... Watching Bussell up close in the rehearsal studio offers instant confirmation that the qualities that have made her special are still in full working order. The trademarks are all there - the line of her long legs, the amazing fluidity of her movement, the supple shape of her hand gestures, the distinctive way she holds her head, and the general impression, though she is 38 and a mother of two, of youthful purity. And as home-counties colonels and pubescent Darcey-wannabes all agree, she is also very, very pretty.

Home-counties colonels ? Are there any ? I think this is what they call 'projection'.

Still, never mind, eh, Martin. Darcey and her daughters will soon be replaced.

With Kettle Sr having been an official of the CPGB we can assume Martin Kettle is thinking of nights at The Bolshoi with KGB Colonels......

Surely some of the credit should go to Dawn French, it is a widely known fact that Ms Bussell only made her break through after appearing on ‘The Vicar of Dibley’

And yes, she is very very pretty….

Ugh! How can you mention Dawn French in the same breath as Darcey Bussell!

To my great regret, I have never seen her dance in person, but thank God for videos! She has got to be the most wondrous ballerina ever. And yes, beautiful to boot.

Her portrait in the National Portrait Gallery is also gorgeous.

But it's the wrong name for the lass. "Darcey Bussell" sounds like a Windies fast bowler. How about "Grace Golightly"?

moronic anonymous - Aspirational, aren't you? Wonder why you never made it in real life?

...and Hello!

(It seems).

'Grace Golightly'?
Wasn't she on 'Are you Being Served'?

Can't top 'Margot Fonteyn' in my book. She had an Aussie hanging 'round too, that little Robbie Helpmann bugger from Adelaide...

Yes she is rather goddess-like.

However, the pose is grotesque. At first, I thought it was a big long arm belonging to Darcy coming down out of the sky for some reason. And then there's the leg and foot thing.

It's horrible. The personality of the self-regarding artist is all over this and there is no regard for the world famous achievements of Darcey Bussell. It's all about what the artist wanted to paint. I hate it.

Our local UKIP Branch just had the former head of Britain's Nuclear Submarine fleet stand as a Council candidate...should I ask if he thinks she's hot so we can confirm this theory about ex-forces types having a thing?
