Awa' Wi' Ye !

The Great Chieftain Of The Pudding Race has quit.

Most amusing. Apparently getting the highest number of seats in 80 years wasn't a good enough performance. I heard an idiot Liberal Democrat MP from North Devon saying that they didn't have distinctive policies, unique selling points to differentiate them from LabCon.

The fool. Doesn't he realise it's that very vagueness that allows them to pitch to all men, from Muslims in Birmingham (with Abu Ghraib images) to Tories in Worcestershire (with campaigns against asylum camps). Charles Kennedy exemplified that big ideological blur. Best man for that job - drunk or sober.

Watch them now. This is going to be fun.

How can the voter distinguish between three identical headless chickens, especially when they are all dressed in tartan. There are no distinguishing ideological differences, or political principles, only different paths to the lowest common denominator. How to use the taxpayers money most efficiently to buy most votes, as well as supporting the ruling political class in the style they expect.
Is there not one Englishman in Westminster?

It will be delicious to watch the LibDem leadership contest. Somehow, I doubt it will be conducted with the maturity and restraint that characterised the DC/DD contest.

However, as you've criticised Cameron for his vagueness/being all-things-to-all, I was a little surprised by your remark that:

Are you saying that the rules of political survival/success are different for third as opposed to second parties? If so, how exactly? (I don't disagree with this proposition: I'm just curious and thinking aloud.)
