New Club For Bradford

Bradford is to be home to a new high-profile club promoting positive pride among British Pakistanis.

Tonight sees the launch of the Pakistan Club, which already has the backing of big names including cricketing legend Imran Khan, politician Lord Nazir Ahmed, business tycoon Nighat Awan OBE and Bradford’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Naveeda Ikram.

This afternoon, international racing driver Adam Khan will be in Centenary Square signing autographs before the official launch event at City Hall which will be attended by about 130 people from across the UK.

When I looked at the T&A website earlier, the item had 92 comments, but they've all gone now. I wonder what they could have been about ?

Anyone from across the UK can join although it will be based in Bradford and be built in phases which include a restaurant, a private cinema, lounge, separate gyms for men and women – eventually there will also be a banqueting hall and library. The club’s founders are actively looking for a suitable site in the city to either build the club premises from scratch or to re-develop.

Membership is open to all Pakistanis or people of Pakistani origin, says Mr Ahmed - as long as they are aged over 18.

Alas, no one from Bradford English Club was available for comment.

I expect Trevor Phillips is on the case right now...or perhaps not.

It sometimes puzzles me why newspapers persist in providing a readers' comments facility, considering the pasting they inevitably get when they toe a politically correct line.

I'm not sure which is more depressing, the T&A's censorious response or their apparent nouslessness in failing to anticipate a negative response to what will inevitably become known as The Paki Club.

WV: shermism. Now there is a word crying out for a definition. Whatever it turns out to be, I think I'll become a shermist.

CIF's policy is pretty arbitrary and highly pc

Reasoned and fairly innocuous posts are deleted under the username; other times they disappear altogether.

They are obviously trying to shape the discussion, but failing because of the resistance they are meeting.

If there was a level playing field the leftist position on the Graun site would be unsustainable; as it is the traiterous freaks take a real hammering in terms not only of comments but in recommends.

The only newspaper comment board that actually is free is the Telegraph I would say

"Bradford English Club"?

It was burnt down in 2001 as you well know Laban. With 23 mostly elderly and disabled people in it while a mob barricaded the doors.

It's a miracle they weren't all killed. Even if they had been, I suspect the incident would go down the memory hole.

Be fair, staybryte. It was a Labour Club - quite ironic really, given that the Labour Party did so much for those who burned it down.

And it all happened just a few streets from where the ILP (and by them the Labour Party) was founded.

I am being quite fair Laban. It was your own writing on the subject that first informed me of the Manningham attempted massacre.

Those who burned it down understood with crystal clarity just what it was. A place serving alcohol to white English Bradfordians. It was, in their eyes, an "English Club".

I went past the Heartlands Club in the Nechells/Washwood Heath borders a little while ago. The forlorn, fortified air of the place reminded me very vividly of certain benighted parts of Belfast I've been to.

Funnily enough the Labour Party - when it actually represented British people - was opposed to mass immigration in the late forties/early fifties.

By the early nineties it was all public sector middle class apparatchiks, careerists, chancers, loony ideolgues

I went to Saltley Amateur Gardeners Club some months back; very sad. Few old guys drowning their sorrows in cheap lager and creamflow bitter; bit of a fortress to get into.

The Washwood Heath ex-serviceman's club is even worse. It's like the Alamo; they are big on Help for Heroes unsuprisngly(the ordinary lads in the army are maybe the last hope)

The area now is just horrible

Maybe they are getting together to press for reform of Pakistan's blasphemy laws. Ever the optimist.

This incident is more blatant than the postcards in the Newham newsagents window episide you reported on a few months back.('Rooms to let-Asian females only' or some variant on these requirement).

The local paper here is broadcasting to everyone that the local Pakistani community feels it can ignore anti-discrimination legislation with impunity.

But of course racism is only a problem when practised by whites, prejudice + power = oppression blah blah blah ad infitinum.

Why not?

The Westminster regime's writ hardly runs in the Emirates

I had the privilege of driving up the Stratford Road the other day - through Sparkhill

It's supposed to be a "Red Route". no parking under any circs. The Bus Lane was completely blocked by parked vehicles and an ice cream van seemed to be doing a fair trade on double red lines.

Of course the more the demographics shift, the bigger the piss take
