Oh Dear

"Tinishya, who lives at the family home in Bristol, with siblings Britney, ten, and Alfie, two, left school to give birth".
A world of ruin in a sentence (the family are from Southmead).

I must be losing my grip on the zeitgeist - I haven't the faintest notion where they got 'Tinishya' from, and I've googled celebrities, minor pop sensations, amine and other comics, Playstation & XBox games, etc....

One of the few redeeming features of the late unlamented London freesheet London Lite was Neil Kerber's The Kids of Today cartoon strip which regaled us with the high points of the life of precisely this kind of family.

But I always used to assume that Kerber had made up the names, like Waynetta and Keisha and, in all probability, Tinishya. Then in the garish Wetherspoons on the Charing Cross Road I came face to face with a young "bar associate" whose name badge read "Keisha".

Sometimes I wonder if I am undergoing some kind of reverse Life on Mars experience and all this is happening in some dystopic alternative future.

@JuliaM: Voila! Now we can all rename ourselves with names that give street cred in the hood, innit, laike.
I bags D'Ryvby.

Of course, as any Grauniad columnist will confirm, Tinishya's problems are solely the result of a lack of adequate sex education, and the shocking lack of availability of contraceptive devices in schools.

Good grief! I might as well just let Blogger's Turing word generator throw up some suggestions... :D

I assumed that Tinishya was black with a name like that and that therefore so was the boyfriend. But as they have stuck together he obviously isnt and nor is she as it turns out.
