UAF/EDL - Nottingham

Someone who went to the demo as an observer and took a fair bit of video here :

"....when discussing the EDL he was pretty adamant that the entire organisation were guilty by association with the more extreme element, yet when talking about the Muslim community his opinion was that nobody could have a complaint against them in general, only against very specific extremists. You can't have it both ways, demanding exceptions for your favourites and making generalisation about your enemies; either you're biased, or you've extra information that you're not sharing."

I agree with the general point. If you can't tar community A with the brush of the bad things some of their members have done (killing and injuring hundreds of people with bombs on buses and trains, for example, or in the case of some less competent members trying to), then you can't reverse the logic and use outliers of community B as typical of everyone in community B. Let's have some consistency here.

Someone of my age who joined the UAF protest here :

...we started to look for demonstrators among the crowds of shoppers, Goths, stall-holders, army families and British Legion members.

I spotted a small group of badge-wearers near the stone lions of the Council House. Cautiously I scanned the badges. This was just as well. They included a small enamal badge with the figures "18". It could have been an advertisement for a lucky Lotto number but I doubted it. I've known for years about the Combat 18 code by which 18 stands for A.H., or Adolf Hitler. There seemed some irony that a badge-wearer combined his "18" badge with a Churchill "V for Victory" badge, but I decided not to stay and point this out.

We wandered past the stalls of Neapolitan treats and olive oil and the British Legion veterans holding huge flags. Eventually someone ran up to us. "Anti-fascist demo?" he enquired. "Other end of the square."

"We want our country back."

How is this fascist? That's the question, not exactly lebensraum I wouldn't have thought. Anybody can see that this country is being rapidly colonised.

"A 43-year-old member of the EDL, a serving soldier who did not want to be named, said: "We came here to support our lads and the UAF and other militants have turned up. I think it's disgusting.

"I look at their protest and there's a Pakistani flag flying with a Muslim symbol."

The anti-fash have some pretty questionable allies. It isn't 1936, contrary to their simplistic view

"Queenie understands the drabness of Britain without immigration and grabs her chance of excitement, defiant of the heart-breaking consequences. The real point of diversity, on television and in life, is not that is correct but that it is vibrant."

Its a good point. I'll remember that one for the next time I feel like irritating the fashophobes.

Yes of course. Maybe it was his birthday.

Imagine if it was. This righteous woman points out the offender to her righteous son, and the next thing you know he has a gaggle of ethnic minority members beat the crap out of the poor lad for wearing a badge that came with the card his little sister got him for his birthday.

Wonderful. Jesus would be proud.

Its people like this that make me want to go and join the EDL.

Makes me think of that scene from The Life of Brian: "Crucifiction? 1st on the left".

I read that Sarah Sands Indy article about ten minutes ago in the bar at the hotel round the corner and was shaking with laughter when I came to the last para. My daughter asked me what was up but it was beyond explanation.

Priceless indeed. And to think she got right through to the very last word in the article before vibrancy reared its gloriously diverse head.

"UAF" are a bunch of ignorant oafs. The have used the word "fascist" so much that the reduced it to a piece of vulgar slang: "FASH".

There is only one organisation that resembles Mussolini's cult of social activism and street brawling and that's the UAF.

just for arguments sake - if the majority of the population did not want 'diversity' how would you permit them to show their objection to this.

"There's loads of space around the statue, you weren't pushed into close confinement and you weren't provoked into trying to break the kettle."

So says one Nachmir commented on the video Bystander has posted.

Freeborn Englishmen are not to be "kettled", that is intolerable.

"You can stick your fucking cameras up your arse - sideways"

Excellent sentiment

These are the kind of lads who worked their bollocks off in mines, foundries and factories. They fought England's wars and lie buried in many a foreign field. What was it McMillan said about the miners, the finest men in the world, beating the Kaiser's army?

Hopefully, with a bit of luck, they will save the nation again.

Traitors have no rights

This vibrancy usually seems to mean dance, the cerebral is notable by its absence.

I distrust it profoundly.

Of course this glorious diverse vibrancy really satisfies nobody. The diasporas do their own thing. Nobody much would watch or listen to the diversified BBC

Never knowingly unsold on mantras - "racist, bigotted, fascist" - are you anon?

It is the colonists who seek the lebensraum - their own countries exploding with surplus population.

I do not suppose that the average EDL type is a great reader, or a devotee of Radio 3.

But they do however have the wit to see the necessity of defending their own patch from dangerous foreign colonisation

I worked with A Muslim once who came across as a really nice guy. Very friendly, open and all round nice guy. Not one mention of his religion or his background.

Then one day I caught him in an argument with some other colleagues where he was shouting about the superiority of Islam, of Pakistan and being abusive about the British, "non-believers", white people, the lot.

I smiled at him and when he realised I was there he had a look on his face like a naughty schoolboy caught in the act of some misdemeanour. He never looked mne in the eye again.

You can't trust them. Any of them. That's my opinion and it's not based on prejudice it is based on one bad experience after another.

WHy do you think it is just your country. I and many other people may feel ok about this country being composed of many different cultures and people. Why do you have a problem with that ? You may say that the indigenous English culture is being destroyed but if I put you on the spot and asked you to tell me what this culture is you would not know where to start. If I asked to sit the nationality test that people new to this country needed to sit you would not know where to start - This country at the end of the day is just the piece of rock that you live on. If there are more people from different places living here it would be a more interesting place. If it was just full of the sort of people who go on an EDL march it would be a living hell. Grow up and get a life

If freeborn Englishmen behave like violent drunk idiots who just want to beat up anyone who disagrees with their ideas then we need to be protected from them and they deserved to be kettled-Get a life

Why don't you think about what you've written. If it is just your opinion formed on the basis of one relationship, are you going to tar every single muslim with the same brush. If the guy was catholic would you apply the same opinion to all catholics
