Petty, Spiteful,Shameful

I wasn't a Thatcher fan. But I recognise that she was a tough cookie and an exceptional leader - and as Britain's first female PM, she'd have been a historic figure even without the considerable impact her governments made.

The Labour Party - or to be more precise, Harriet Harman, have just used our tax money to produce the above list of historic women in politics - all of whom are named - save the most historic of them all.

Someone tell me it's a hoax. They couldn't really be that petty - and that blatant. Could they ?

It never pays to underestmate the spitefulness of the Labour Party.

ps. I think the giveaway that they are motivated by spite, and it is not gsimply an oversight is the inclusion of- "First Female Head of Government - Sinmavo Bandaranaike", in a list that is otherwise exclusively about British milestones.

What purpose is there for her (historically dubious) inclusion, other than to try to make Margaret Thatcher's rise to PM seem less unique?

Good catch, though for myself, I thought the giveaway was when I saw the name 'Harriet Harman' attached to this stunt...

Its not a hoax, you can find it here:

Words fail me as to the utter vindictiveness of Labour. I really do think that they see people from the Right as sub-human. Nye Bevan's quote about the Tories being 'lower than rats' pretty much sums up their attitude.

Can anyone remind me who said of the Trade Union movement (or maybe the labour movement in general)
'never have I met such terrible men' or something along those lines.

Usually in left wing lists, the first woman MP honour is granted to Sinn Féin's Constance Markiewicz. Hmmm, someone will be in trouble.

I also note that first woman head of state is not on the list. Presumably queens don't count even when their power is more than titular

That could have come out of my own mouth.

"Petty, Spiteful,Shameful"

Yup. That's the left.

They have no empathy or compassion for all human kind, only those on the approved list.

I suspect the Labour party of old, with its Methodist roots, would have been different.

Not now though. They are the nasty party of today.

Standing on the shoulders of midgets, aren't they? Not only Thatcher, they could have mentioned Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Benazir Bhutto...

They don't seem to care for Margaret Bondfield (1st female cabinet minister) either, presumably because she supported Ramsey Macdonald's National Government.

Their list is an Awful Warning that they don't under any circumstances want women who don't think what they're told to think.

Women in power?

Where's the Virgin Queen then?
The Empress of India?
HM The Queen Elizabeth II?

There's lots of "first Muslim" this and that on the list. What about Linda Bellos, Britain's first Black Jewish gay councillor? A bit too left-wing, perhaps, despite her OBE and Met volunteer award.

2010 : Baroness Uddin first black female Moslem peer to be convicted of fiddling her expenses?

I think Margaret Bondfield stayed with Labour in 1931 although she lost her seat then and faded out of the picture.
