Plastic Washing Bags / Laundry Bags

You know the things. Large, heavy-duty plastic bags, with plastic carry handles. They come in bright primary colours and you use them - or we do - to transport wet washing from machine to line or tumble-dryer.

You used to be able to buy them in supermarkets at about a quid a throw - but they seem to have vanished from the shelves everywhere. Laundry baskets take up too much space - you can't fold them up when not in use as you can a bag. Ours are ageing, splitting, losing the handles.

Where have they all gone ? Anyone know who sells them these days ?

Bags from IKEA make a good substitute. The blue, extra large ones have strong handles and are about the same size.

Sign up for self scanning/checkout at Waitrose and they'll give you a wonderful collection of fine, strong bags.

Hmm, plenty of reusable shopping bags these days, but mostly they are probably not large enough for a load of washing.

Maybe one of the woven polypropylene bags they sell now for recycling collection, or for garden use? I think they should be big enough.

Wilkinsons carry a lot of household items. Might be worth a try if you have any branches down your way.

I find those large checkered woven plastic bags with zip fasteners useful. You should be ablr to get them at most hardware shops
