Labour frontbenchers including Douglas Alexander, James Purnell, and Tom Watson are briefing delegates to the Labour conference that the Tories have not really changed and will revert to their rightwing instincts within a year of being in office. The official briefing claims the key dividing line between the Labour and the Conservatives will be "a government that is on your side and a government that will leave you on your own".
If only. Wouldn't it just be great to have a government that would leave you alone. Police/law, defence, infrastructure (I'd renationalise water and sewerage - natural monopolies), medicine. That's medicine, not lifestyle lectures. Vouchers for schools. The rest would be up to us.
Not a cat in hell's chance though.

A government at my side - what is that feeling in my trousers ? A hand groping for my testicles ? Oh, no, it's all right, the hand just wants my wallet. What a relief !

Labour must be madder than I thought if they think saying the tories are "a government that will leave you on your own" will be seen by voters as a criticism.
govt has grown like topsy...we have councils now that interfer with even the smallest details of our lives...all apparently to bring us more choice and accountabilty...you just have to laugh.
Re the previous post...
'My impression is that she probably had never heard of Mr Duke.'
No indeed. It seems she just read his stuff and thought 'Hey, this guy's really got it in for Israel! He must be One Of Us.'
So the point is not that Ms Delich is a neo-Nazi, but that she's symptomatic of a Left which, whilst assuming there OUGHT to be a vast gulf between its own position and a neo-Nazi one, can actually no longer tell the difference. Just like the Israeli historian Ilan Pappe, darling of the anti-Zionists, when he unwittingly gave an interview to a German neo-Nazi paper.
Having the Government on "your side" seems to be rather like having the fat kid on your team in PE.
They're the government. They're here to help
