I really do fail to see what the great fuss is about here. The man was dead, as in not living and not ever going to live.
His body was going to be either cremated or buried; either way everything organic was due to get returned to the planetary carbon cycle.
What does it matter that there's some other carbon other than the stuff you expected to be there?
Were this such a terrible thing to happen, families would presumably be asking that the foreign organs in transplant patients be carefully removed prior to burial/cremation, yet this doesn't happen.
Same thing for the "bits removed at post mortem" scandals; what the hell does it matter? The whole lot's going to get destroyed anyway and it isn't as if anybody's going to notice at the funeral.
Honestly, sometimes I despair at the stupidity of the general public sometimes...

I suspect the families of transplant patients are likely to be fully aware and accepting of the 'foreign' organs residing inside them.
Not quite the same situation as finding some bits of some other families' loved ones shoved unceremoniously inside your dearly departed like so much butchers scrap,is it...?
Presumably, the relatives of these patients might like their departed's remains back, to give them a proper burial, if they are unaware of it too.

Oh, I'm with you there, 'doc'. I despair at the insensitivity, arrogance, slapdash work and callous disregard of some of the medical profession, too.....

Well, it is butcher's scrap really, isn't it? I mean, what are the family going to do with it? Feed it to the dog?
"I mean, what are the family going to do with it?"
Bury it, cremate it - just as they did with the rest of their relative.
