Murder in the Community

Bodmin - skip the torture of those with 'learning difficulties' and go straight from bullying to murder :

Kerry Ollerenshaw, a care worker and a friend of the family said Raum Fox has learning difficulties and had been "harassed". She added: "I can't believe someone would be callous enough to put a firework through a letter box." Classmate Brett Millington, 17, said Raum had been moved from Bodmin College to St Austell College to escape the bullies, who made fun of his acne. "Raum was a social outcast and always kept himself to himself. He never socialised with anyone in or out of school," he said. "He was badly bullied. It wasn't all physical but a lot of psychological abuse he suffered. Kids would make fun of his bad acne and call him 'spotty' and made fun of his greasy hair. When he was at Bodmin his mum Mary Fox would walk him to school every day because the bullying was so bad. But if anything that just made it worse."

A police spokesman said reports a firework was pushed through their letterbox was "speculation" and the cause was not yet known.

Laban,

Listening to the BBC radio 2 news on the hour, a firework has been found on the premises.

The police are already downplaying bullying - oh, and they've gratuitously slagged off Mary Fox by calling her 'eccentric'

That's lovely isn't it?

The police are now the enemy.

"The police are now the enemy."

That's been the case for some years.

That makes me suspicious that, like Fiona Pilkington, there's a history of ignored police complaints to be discovered, and the police PR team is getting their retaliation in first...

From the 'Telegraph':"Senior investigating officer DCI Paul Burgan said they were trying to identify the firework used in the attack.

"We are keeping an open mind at the moment, there are names being bandied around on social networking sites but this is innuendo, we need to deal with factual evidence and get the information direct," he said.

He appealed to those responsible to come forward sooner rather than later.

"I would say to them that if it was a harmless prank please come forward," he said. "

If it was a 'harmless prank'..? Say what?

It was not the police but her family who called her 'eccentric'.

It was both, actually: In a statement, her family said: "We, the sons and daughters of Mary, would like to thank everyone for their kind words at this difficult time.

"We would also like to say a huge thank you to the fire service who tried to rescue our mother from this horrific fire that makes no sense.

"Our mum devoted her life to us, her nine children, and went without herself to provide the best that she could for us.

"She was at times, shall we say, eccentric; she had a sense of humour and was loving and caring.

...

Superintendent Martin Orpe said: "Initial enquires have revealed that there are no mental health issues in relation to either the deceased, Mary Fox, or her son Raum. However it is fair to say that Mary could have been regarded as eccentric. "

Why the need to say this? What possible bearing does it have?

Given the severity of the two flank attack upon the people of this country - neo-liberal robber baron capitalism on one hand and the left's wholesale assault on self-worth and self-esteem on the other - I'm just suprised it isn't much worse than it is now.

And the woeful ineffectiveness of the criminal justice system represents a wholesale breach of the social contract. The ghastly Cherie Blair might think the political class rules by divine right but hubris can have terrible consequences

I agree with you. I cannot understand why the family mentioned it too. Could it be to counter rumours along the lines of: "eccentricity" = "mental health issues" = "negligence" (ie culpability in starting the fire)?

One of the problems is that none of us know the exact circumstances of what happened and it is all too easy to jump to conclusions.

A firework appears to have been the cause of the fire (a most irresponsible thing for a juvenile twat to have done on bonfire night). However, I wonder how many other similar instances took on the same night that did not result in the same tragic circumstances.

I do not trust the police (although I think they are at the butt end of a whole cultural malaise that has resulted in the relegation of *real* law and order). Also, I do not trust any part of the media to report such a case properly because they each have their own vested interests for spinning the report according to their own cynical agenda.

What bloody planet do YOU live on you stupid bitch?

On council estates all OVER England, between end of September and mid November any one not leaving a bowl of water under the letter box is regarded as a fuckwit.
