"we still have relatively high levels of pregnancies going to birth"

Former Green Party chair Jonathon Porritt laments the shortage of dead babies.

Couples who have more than two children are being “irresponsible” by creating an unbearable burden on the environment, the government’s green adviser has warned.

Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the government’s Sustainable Development Commission, says curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming.

Hmmm. We currently top about 200,000 babies pa. Just ain't enough, apparently.

At this point the ST
The British population, now 61m, will pass 70m by 2028, the Office for National Statistics says. The fertility rate for women born outside Britain is estimated to be 2.5, compared with 1.7 for those born here. The global population of 6.7 billion is expected to rise to 9.2 billion by 2050.
I wonder where she got the stats for mothers born outside the UK ? Anyone been through the last couple of years ONS Population Trends stats , the ones that come out in December ? I confess I haven't read through them, just noted the headline figures on births to foreign-born mothers. The ONS have already estimated fertility by ethnicity - and the figures chime neatly with the list of boroughs with the highest fertility rates. I look forward to Mr Porritt telling the good people of Bradford, Darwen and Newham why they really ought to be aborting more babies. Like his ideal baby, he'll be lucky to get out alive.

Tangentially, Times sportswriter Simon Barnes wonderful and heartwarming piece on his Down syndrome son. The strange thing is that the same government who'll fine you for not having disabled access to your business or parish hall is happy to kill the disabled the moment they discover their existence :

At the hospital, when they discovered on the scan that Down’s syndrome was a possibility, they very kindly offered to kill him for us.

Correction - of course we don't top 600,000 babies a year - 600,000 is the approximate number of live births. We only top about 200,000.

That fact is that we will eventually have to implement population control.
Unfortunately, humans are too stupid to do anything difficult until well after it is unavoidable.
The ONLY good answer to the worlds' problems is to reduce the population to the point where we can sustain ourselves and our planet.
One day, we would/will be able to support 6 or even 20 billion people, but today we do not have that ability and we should recognize it.
This effort should start in countries where there exists sufficient social systems for the aging. We should not expect 3rd world countries to solve this problem

It's good to see the Hon Sir Jonathon Porritt, 2nd Baronet, encouraging eugenics for the chavvier classes.

Naturally, a few the more progressive-minded have jumped the gun somewhat, but it will be good to have such enthusiastic servants of the state ready to follow orders when the time comes.

Lefties and Greenies(?) who care so much about the planet/environment/Gaia should stop their complaining; and do something positive to save the world's resources: for example grabbing a knife, and slitting their own wrists.

Surely a logical next step from all their moaning and whining.

So f*ck of Poritt (and you next of kin) my family needs YOUR resources .

PS I have three children :)
PPS Seriously - who the f*ck are you saving the planet for?

I was rather hoping you'd run a story on this, the muslim population has more than doubled in the last five years:

To be honest it's a good job lefties and greens are not adding to the gene pool. Similarly they have less kids to indoctrinate.

Natural selection in action.

0x1B, the fact is Britain already operates voluntary population control and with a birth-rate of 1.7 British people are already below replacement.

Strangely these same leftists who think we need to have less children think we need to have more immigration to bring in 'young workers' to pay for their pensions.

Thanks for the advice, I'll pass on that though.

An uncharitable observer might conclude that your policy recommendations were designed to destroy the white population.

Any solutions to the problems of the world are going to come from white people.

With white people out of the picture we can look forward to a series of Malthusian crises around the world which at best might stabilize into various subsistence economies in time.

Unfortunately, humans are too stupid to do anything difficult until well after it is unavoidable.

Quite so, but its not in the west where population control is needed.

I'd love to hear you explain why reducing, even further, the percentage of white people in the world is going to help in any way.

You can't of course.

So they worship Gaia do they?

If the Government thinks that having too many children is a bad thing. Why make it a viable career option for baby farmers like Karen Matthews?

the more i read about this sort of thing, the more i agree with the Pope and Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life.

in my younger, foolish, "liberal" days i scoffed at it and even mocked it.

now we've arrived at a situation where medical staff offer to kill a pre-natal down syndrome baby , plus the fascistic rantings of the likes of Poritt, who , if he were born in the 1930s would have been a fully paid up member of the S.S. eugenics department.

Popey was right.
I was wrong.

simple as that.

7:53 PM

of course, it is through idiots like her that we are accelerating even faster towards a Sharia Law state.

off to the gas chambers when she's aged 70, for being a "Kuffar".

does she really think that the Jihadists will spare her?

Ox1B sounds like one of the Liberal Ecologists group of a few years back. they were recommending a sort of cull of the population. A prophecy about the future can never be a fact.
And to everyone else, a wise and witty Frenchman (can't remember who)once said "Live? Our servants will do that for us!" We may all say "Breed? the immigrants will do that for us!".
However it does seem that we are being encouraged to kill our children to make room for ahem, the diversity ,...
And you can be a greeny without being a mad lefty. Read Fr. Fahey's 'The Church and Farming'.
I'm a greeny - so you LIKE eating pesticide and organophosphates and swallowing oestrogen in your tea? - but I'm also a bit of a traddy catholic.
The late Michael Crichton took the mick out of Gaians and suggested we should read Chesterton's 'Eugenics and Other Evils'

They offered to kill our son because the scan showed he had club feet - which was readily corrected by surgery when he was 9 months old.

If they think there are too many people in the world why don't they just do the decent thing and top themselves?

Who remembers the scandal in the 70's following the publication of an anti-abortion book "Babies for burning"?
The authors alleged that a dead foetus possessed a certain commercial value as a recyclable commodity and a live one can be sold for experimental use - possibly even as a "spare-part" source.
The CPS took an interest in the book, questions were asked by the Left in Commons, there were injunctions and the claims made in the book were "exaggerated"
(You can find Wendy Savage living up to her surname on this at
http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/art.php?id=8791 )
However, it's now clear that babies can be used in all the ways outlined in the book, and can even provide ingredients in anti-wrinkle creams...Porritt would deem it UNETHICAL and UNECOLOGICAL to pick a wild bluebell but it's ETHICAL and ECOLOGICAL (and who knows, perhaps even fun) to cut up a live child, who is accorded less protectoion by the law in this country than a goldfish.

It really upsets me that so many Downs Syndrome babies are aborted. I worked with people with Downs Syndrome and I find it offensive that so many believe their lives aren't worth living, even in the UK where we have a relatively good standard of social care.
