What Other People Think

Kipling :

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
David Warren :

As one of my more knowing correspondents put it: "Wall Street loves money but hates free markets, because free markets distribute economic benefits to those who earn them, rather than to those best able to seize them."

The capitalist investment bankers stand accused, rightly, of having invented brilliant kiting schemes -- ultimately to deliver credit to customers who hadn't earned it. Their "greed" is irrelevant -- everyone is trying to make money. The point is that the schemes themselves were basically unsound. The lesson is that when home ownership is considered a "right" instead of a privilege, it is not only the housing market that goes bottom up.
The great Kirk Elder :

As I write, the Dow Jones index on Wall Street is plunging at the speed of an Apollo re-entry vehicle, and a conservative Congressman is warning that the rescue plan advocated by the political establishment represents "the slippery slope to socialism". Would that it were so. Such a fate might imply a degree of economic planning, albeit with the side effect that the supermarkets would run short of fresh vegetables while being overstocked with tractor tyres and shoes comprising two left feet.
It's at moments like this that I am grateful that my savings are stored in jamjars in the airing cupboard, behind my wellington boots.

The Public Sociologist :

Academics, armchair economists, libertarians and House Republicans are the only ones who take the "principles" of neoliberalism seriously. Governments here and across the Atlantic only stick with it in as far as it entrenches the rule of capital. And the way the government has handled the nationalisation of Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley and waived competition rules regards Lloyds-TSB and HBOS are entirely consistent with this. The state absorbs the the bad debts and liabilities, while it facilitates a transfer of assets to the private sector. As Vince Cable, the LibDem deputy leader observed in February, "Northern Rock’s ‘assets’ include unsecured debts, such as portions of mortgages in excess of the value of the properties concerned. In other words, the rubbish."

While sections of finance capital goes under, the government has and will continue to maintain the strength of finance capital as a whole. Whatever Tories and their ilk may think, nationalisation of this character is nothing to do with socialism. It's asset-stripping by another name.
He has a point. We get the debts they can't value, Santander get those nice cash deposits.

The problem for most UK banks seems to be that their lending isn't covered by their deposits. You'd think that to encourage more saving you'd raise interest rates. I see that the world and his wife are calling for immediate interest rate cuts - as happened after the dot-com crash. Let's start the merry-go-round again ...

All things are moving at the same time. We have very low savings ratios in this country - spending is seen as a good thing, it keeps the money circulating at an appropriate velocity. Low interest rates encourage "investment" - true. They also encourage asset inflation - which is why we've seen a massive transfer of the housing stock to the wealthy over the last 15 years - while inflation as measured by Gordon Brown has been "low". Trickle-down didn't quite work as planned - instead of those City bonuses and ever-increasing director salaries going into luxury yachts and slate bathrooms, creating employment on the Hamble and in Bethesda, large chunks of it went on forcing up property prices, and making it near-impossible for a first-time buyer to afford property. Thirty years back a poor Laban paid £10,000 for a two-bedroom cottage - with roses round the door - in a country village. He was earning £3,000 pa - bad money even in 1978. There's not a cat in hell's chance that someone on £15-20,000 could afford that house now.

So the money whirls round, we get and spend, the economy booms for twenty years. Trouble is, a percentage of the cash flies off to China and Saudi Arabia, because we import so much more than we export. It's a bit like those penny cascade machines at the arcade - some of those 2p bits fall into a bucket marked "offshore".

We don't save much, while other people do. So as this process continues, we think we're rich - while all the time we're growing relatively poorer compared to, say, China, Singapore, Saudi. Because the money flowing out is balanced by money coming back in - foreigners investing in government and corporate bonds and shares, we end up with what's left of our industry being owned by others. Our current account deficit is terrifyingly large, worse than the US given the size of our economy. How long can this process continue before we're wholly owned, the pound collapses (revealing our true poverty), or both ?

To some extent the same things are happening in the US, although their much stronger Christian culture, while in decline, will postpone any collapse until well after ours. Who knows, our fate may act as a warning and example. (It's scary to see the glee with which the assembled Guardianistas greet the prospect of America's decline and China's rise. They ring the bells, but within their lifetime they'll be wringing their hands).

And at the same time, the British cultural collapse is almost complete, mass immigration is transforming the country into an interesting patchwork of ethnic groups, with all the potential for conflict which that implies, the natives are still merrily aborting their descendants, the group with the highest fertility has also the strongest, most militant and most cohesive culture, education's still pretty shot, the underclass, native and otherwise, shows no sign of diminishing in size or in its range of pathologies. We haven't got the money to pay our soldiers properly, so we increasingly offshore the military. Didn't a chap called Vortigern try that one ?

Will the options for my children be "fight or flight" ?

It's a pretty impressive feat, to have transformed what in 1945 was the third most powerful nation on earth, renowned for its stability and civility, into one with the most tremendous basket-case potential (oh alright, compared to large chunks of Africa it's not - but is that the benchmark ?). Just take away the religion, and all else follows in its natural, horrible and inevitable sequence.

No, it was the introduction of the new, Socialist religion wot done it. Mr Attlee, who was not a bad chap, destroyed his country.

Im getting a bit old for flight so...

Someone needs to explain to Guardianistas what might happen for instance in one of the pet projects - like South Africa - without US military and economic power.

What happens when the Afrikaners decide theyve had enough of the current set up and turn things around, which Ive no doubt they could do if the will was there.

Miliband or his descendants will huff and puff but without US power nothing will be done.

I agree with dearieme. People talk about a decline over the last 40 years but the rot set in long before that. The Second World War will be seen as the iceberg that sank Britain, destroying its economic power for nearly half a century and encouraging the idea amongst the populace, or at least a significant enough part of it, that big government (nationalisation, the NHS, the whole welfare state idea) was the answer. The necessarily intrusive role of the state in the period 1939-45 gave a lot of credence to this and it carried on into the post-war period. Social decline has been an inevitable side-effect.

Change is the only constant, so perhaps the direction the country is taking may change for the better over time and things, though not nearly as good as we'd hoped, will not be as bad as we fear. A faint hope, but one which with (hopefully) a forthcoming 20 years of Conservative government may come to pass keeps me going. But David Cameron (and his successors) had better understand that more of the same (and even different ways of trying to achieve the same) will not be enough. The task facing them in 2010 will even more onorous than that faced by Margaret Thatcher in 1979 - and what is at stake (ultimately national survival) is no less than that faced in 1939.

Japan and Germany were bombed into rubble, but that didn't prevent them overtaking the UK within 30 years. Korea was an arable country at the end of WWII, it is now a rich, industrial powerhouse.

The war did not cripple Britain. 60-odd years is an enormously long time, more than enough to recover, collapse and recover again, in economic terms.

Britain's problems are political, social and cultural. What native spark there was was taxed or regulated out of existence. Is there a tendency for advanced industrial democracies to breed an intellectual class bent on self-destruction, or is it only the Anglo-Saxon countries?

Laban, I've been a long time subscriber to your site and I've followed a similar path to your own a a disillusioned 'lefty'. Several months ago my path took a turn in the direction of the 'conspiracy' theory generally referred to as the "New World Order'. Nobody was more surprised than me when this happened as I'd previously dismissed any such as ideas as nonsense and the province of crack pot delusionals. I don't any more. Suddenly so much that didn't make sense became much clearer. The drive towards an EU superstate; mass immigration and the resultant dogmas of 'multiculturism', 'diversity' and 'political correctness'; the disconnect between the government and the people; GM foods; the climate change scam; the ever expanding 'Big Brother' state; the dumbing down of the education system; food and energy shortages and more recently the financial crisis with the media friendly, soundbite tag of the 'credit crunch'.

Explaining it all here is obviously impossible but the link below is to a video which is a very good introduction full of provable facts rather than wild speculation. I'd be interested in your thoughts on it.

PPS Nothing that has happened to Britain has been by chance. It is all by design.

Its true, there is nowhere to run to. The same nation destroying processes (entities) are at work across the western (white) world.

I just watched that vid, what utter rubbish!
He goes on about how the whole world should unite against elite 'bankers' who he blames as part of the NWO, then he claims everyone in the world is together on this..
Well if thats the case who is causing the problem, if we are all the victims?

-
I do believe there is a conspiracy too much has happened to weaken the West for it to be a coincidence, but we are not all in it together. As one culture or power structure fades another will rise to take its place.

Harry J said...

Anonymous, with respect it wasn't that hard to understand. What he is saying is that a very small 'elite' group are controlling the world. A significant element of their control is that of the banking system. The very people Thomas Jefferson was referring to when he said:

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their  currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks...will deprive the people of  all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

... The modern theory of the perpetuation of debt has drenched the earth with blood, and crushed its inhabitants under burdens ever accumulating."

In 1913 Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act. A few years later he wrote:

"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men."

Bill Clinton's mentor the late Prof. Carroll Quigley summed it up in a few sentences:

"The powers of financial capitalism had a far-reaching plan, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole... Their secret is that they have annexed from governments, monarchies, and republics the power to create the world's money..." .- ,

What the narrator of the video is saying when he says we are all victims is quite obviously all of us who aren't part of the elite group in control. The point being that whatever our apparent differences we all have a shared fate awaiting us. Divide and rule (multiculturism and diversity for example) is one of the oldest tactics in the book and it would be wise of us to remember that. That doesn't mean I'm a fan of mass immigration or multiculturism but I am keen to avoid the traps being set so our focus can be on the real enemy and cause of so many problems.

You should not even need to ask the question.

We can save ourselves, at least give ourselves a chance; or we can go under. The next 5 years will be critical.

@Rob 10.20pm

"Is there a tendency for advanced industrial democracies to breed an intellectual class bent on self-destruction, or is it only the Anglo-Saxon countries?"

The liberal class in the anglophone world, who dominate culture, education and the media, is more markedly nihilistic than its equivalent in the Latin countries of the developed world.

The English intellectual is the most dangerous strain of this breed, and as George Orwell observed, "would rather steal from a poor box than stand to attention for God Save The Queen."

rev harry, "What he is saying is that a very small 'elite' group are controlling the world."

Yes and what he is not saying is who this 'elite' group is, what their agenda is, who they are working with or for, and to what ultimate ends, and who's interests are advanced by it.
We are not all equal victims, it is primarily the anglosphere that is having its culture threatened, whereas various other cultures and countries get stronger.

Harry J said...

Anon, it was a brief introductory video to a vast and complex topic. Their agenda is a 'New World Order' through a 'One World Government' of complete global control. Global control will be exercised through a world bank with a world currency using digital 'money' as well as total control of food and energy supplies from the present 6 billion or so to around 500 million (see Georgia guide stones). There will also be a world army and eventually a microchipped population. Of greater concern is their desire for a drastic reduction in the world population. Everything that is happening now and in recent history has been steps towards that goal. That includes the mass immigration evident not just in the anglosphere but in all Western societies. This is done for several reasons including the dilution of the idea of the nation state which will make the transition that much easier. Other reasons include causing disruption and disorder in society in order to advance the agenda for greater control and reduction of individual freedoms.

I know that at first sight this seems incredible. It certainly did to me. All of these assertions have evidence to back them up. The 'reality' purveyed by the mainstream media is vastly different from what is actually happening. Just because none of this is being reported doesn't mean it's not true. The exact nature of the agenda is difficult to ascertain but the general aims are quite clear.

Who the elite group are is more difficult to explain. Remember this is a secret, covert, agenda. What can be discerned is who the organisations and secret societies involved are. On a political level they include the Royal Institute for International Affairs; the Council on Foreign Relations; the Trilateral Commission; the Bilderbergers; the Club of Rome; the Fabian Society and the Council of 300. There is also an esoteric, occult, dimension to the agenda and system of control. This is done through the higher levels of Masonry as well as the likes of Skull and Bones (the Bushes are members), the Knights of Malta; the Knights Hospitallers and Bohemian Grove.

An important thing to understand is that everything in our society, organisations and businesses etc, are constructed on pyramidical basis. This, for example, includes both individual banks and the banking system as a whole. The system of global control operates along the same lines. All of the above fit into some part of the overall pyramid. So who or what's at the top? Once someone has reached the 33rd degree of Freemasonry they are then eligible to enter the higher 'Illuminati' (the enlightened ones) degrees. This is the name largely used to define the elites attempting to take complete control of the World. What appears certain is that there is a Council of 13 with representatives from the 13 bloodlines that rule the World. Our own dear Queen is among them. What's not so certain but what is quite likely is that there is a level of control above this.

Ok, I suspect that many reading this will deride it as nonsense. That's your right of course. All I ask is that you keep an open mind but it's my humble opinion that this conspiracy is very real and is unfolding before our eyes. We either wake up soon or the World will be changed for ever.

Anon, these people have absolutely no national loyalty at all. The destruction of the West and within it the Anglosphere is being done by those in control through their proxies such as the Bilderberger, Fabian and Freemason Tony Blair. I suspect by other countries getting stronger you mean the likes of China and India. If you want to know what our future is meant to be you need look no further than China. Authoritarian socialism for the masses and monopoly capitalism for the elites. China has been built up by these very people. Do you really think that America and Britain would allow their manufacturing base to be exported to China because of a flimsy concept like 'free trade'? China is controlled as is India. The greatest source of resistance is in the West hence the cultural and racial onslaught.

I can only suggest doing some research on the subject. I'll leave you with a few quotes:

"The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists."

Edgar J Hoover

"It is not my intention to doubt that the doctrine of the Illuminati and the principles of Jacobinism had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more satisfied of this fact than I am."

George Washington

"The CFR is the American Branch of a society ( the Royal Institute for International Affairs) which originated in England, and which believes that national boundaries should be obliterated, and a one-world rule established."

Carroll Quigley, member of CFR, mentor to Bill Clinton.

I don't believe it Rev Harry.
Demographics matter, any Western based illuminati (which they are according to these conspiracies) would have no interest in seeing a demographic collapse in the West while countries like India are predicted to grow massively and overtake China very soon, Africa is pretty much the same with some of the highest growth rates in the world.
If an illuminati existed it would be interested in seeing the expansion of the areas it has the most control over, and the most demographic similarity too, whites for example wouldn't be able to rule over the Chinese without them becoming pretty suspicious of what was going on.

Was Chairman Mao controlled by or a member of the illuminati?
Vladimir Putin?
Ahmadinejad?

Castro? Yeah I heard he was but I find it hard to believe, the guy has no power and a backward country.

Im leaning towards some belief in a wider conspiracy but I too baulk at the China/India part.

Nation destroyers in the west may be hoping to bring these two on board for their schemes but I dont think they have succeeded. Where is the vibrancy for China? Just why is that Indian companies are allowed to buy western ones but not vice versa?

Harry J said...

Demographics don't matter when you plan to reduce the world population anyway (see Agenda 21, Codex Alimentarius, Avian Flu, WW3 etc).

It's Saturday so I can't go into too many details. China has been under Illuminati control since the Opium Wars. The Masonic organisations they set up to control and run the trade on their behalf, such as the Triads, still operate today. Mao was funded and set up by the International Bankers from the start.

David Rockefeller who stated in 1973 after his visit to China:

"The social experiment of China under Chairman Mao's leadership is one of the most important and successful in human history." (quoted by New York Times, "From a China Traveler," August 10, 1973.)

Among the social experiment was the creation of a commune system in which "the family unit is broken up...The children are taken away from the parents and placed in government-run nurseries...The parents may see their children once a week and when they see them they cannot show affection toward the children. The idea is to have the children and the family sever their affection and direct it toward the state. Names are taken away from the children and they are given numbers. There is no individual identity... The commune system is destroying morality in Red China: There is no morality because the love of the family is taken away. There is no honesty and respect among men or between men. There is no human dignity: they are all like animals. There is no guilt associated with murder of individuals for the improvement of the state." ( Sworn statement before the House Un-American Activities Committee by the Reverend Shik-Ping Wang, East Asia Director of the Baptist Evangelization Society International, in Myron C. Fagan, The Truth About "National Council of Churches", CPA Book Publishers, Boring, Oregon, p. 10.)

This is the Communist system that Rockefeller praises, a system in which 64 million persons were killed as result of Mao's social experiment. The number is based on the U.S. Senate Internal Security Subcommittee's report.

India, as with the rest of the Commonwealth, is still largely controlled from London through the secret society networks set up before 'independence'. Overt control is always difficult to maintain. Covert control with the illusion of freedom and democracy is much easier. After all we in Britain think we have 'free and fair' elections when we don't. Ask yourself where the Indians 'buying' Western companies get their money from? They're just front men doing what they're told.

Yes it's complicated and yes it's difficult to understand but I ask you again to do your own research and cross referencing. It's only then that the bigger picture emerges. Because when you do that much that is happening in the 'news' becomes a charade. For example today we have Gordon Brown, the Illuminati front man for Britain, going to a meeting of European heads of state. He says he's 'in search of "global solutions" to the credit crunch'. It's so blindingly obvious once you see it.

It is hard not to look at the views of Gramsci, the Institute for Social Research (Frankfurt School), et al, and not come to a conclusion that a lot of our social and political woes exist due to conspiracy. (Heck, even Soros was blatantly trying to push bank nationalization on the US last week.) But I thought I got over all that stuff about 10 years ago, because I don't think there are that many competent people able to coordinate that well together and still keep it relatively secret.

Starting to return to being agnostic about the New World Order, though.

Anyway, Laban,
You mentioned inflated housing prices here in the UK...I don't think we are likely to see a pop as drastic as that in the US because here in the UK we have two policies that have been introduced by those of the well-meaning, but destructive, political persuasion: Open borders and land usage restrictions.

Unless free immigration, including that from the EU, is halted, there will always be demand for housing, especially in the Southeast. This causes a knock-on effect to the rest of the country.

Most land usage in the UK is restricted to what it was in either 1914 or 1948, which means, short of a revolution of both green/progressive and conservative politics, there will always be a limited amount of space in which people will be allowed to live here in the UK.

I regret that instead of buying a house in Brighton 10 years ago when I had the dosh, I decided not to put my money into housing because the correction was coming. I was completely ignorant of immigration and land use laws. It took two years of scrimping and saving to get the money to afford the stamp duty on the house I bought with my in-laws when we returned from Germany in 2004 (having exhausted our savings to the Expat Tax).
